Energy Transfer is one of the largest US pipeline systems, assembled through dozens of acquisitions.
The network spans crude, natural gas, natural gas liquids and refined products — from the wellhead to export terminals. That breadth means the company earns at every stage of hydrocarbon movement rather than at one.
The partnership form yields high distributions and different taxation, along with more complex reporting. The company was historically known for aggressive growth through deals, which brought scale, debt and legal disputes with counterparties alike.
Income is predominantly tariff-based, but the share of price-linked contracts is higher than at pure transporters. Risks: permitting constraints on new routes, cost of capital, and governance quality, about which investors have historically had questions.
