Circle issues a dollar stablecoin and earns interest on the reserves rather than fees.
The user hands over a dollar and receives a digital token that can be sent anywhere in the world in seconds. The company puts that dollar into short-term government securities — and keeps all the interest. The token holder receives none: that is the business.
Hence a direct dependence on interest rates: if they fall, income falls proportionally at unchanged tokens in circulation. A substantial share of that income is paid to partners for distributing the token. Risks: falling rates, stablecoin regulation, confidence in the reserves and competition from a larger issuer. The company pays no dividend.
