Leonardo DRS makes defence electronics — thermal imagers, targeting systems and shipboard power.
The products are embedded in specific military programmes: armoured vehicle sighting systems, detection sensors, electric power plants for ships. Such equipment goes through long qualification and stays in the system for its whole service life — a supplier is changed extremely rarely.
The growing line is electric propulsion and power distribution on warships, where a rising number of electrical systems demands fundamentally greater capacity. The company is mostly owned by a European parent, whose decisions affect the stock's liquidity. Risks: defence budgets, other people's programme schedules and contract execution. The dividend is small.
