DT Midstream owns gas pipelines and storage — it charges for transport, not for the gas.
The company was spun out of a utility holding and does not take ownership of gas: it moves other people's and charges for volume. The gas price therefore barely affects its revenue — what matters is the volume that passed through the pipe, and that is set by production and by demand at the end of the route.
Contracts usually include a commitment to ship a minimum volume or pay for it, which makes the flow predictable for years. Demand is supported by liquefied gas exports and by power stations, including new ones being built for data centres. Storage adds value in winter, when what matters is peak delivery rather than the average. Risks: permits for new pipelines and the pace of production. A dividend is paid.
