Par value of a share
The accounting value of one share recorded in the articles; share capital is built from it, and it has almost nothing to do with the price on screen.
How to read the number
It matters in two places: when shares are split or consolidated, and when the charter computes the minimum preferred dividend as a share of par.
When the metric lies
A low par value does not make a share cheap, nor a high one expensive. Price comes from demand; par value was decided at issue.
