Position limit

The maximum number of contracts in one series that a single participant may hold.

How to read the number

The cap protects the market from concentration: without it a large holder could set the settlement price for themselves.

When the metric lies

Limits are counted separately on the net position and on gross open contracts. An order that raises the second is rejected even when the first is zero.

Also known as: contract position cap
