Put date (offer)

The right, or the obligation, to present a bond to the issuer for early redemption.

How to read the number

For a bond with a put date, yield must be calculated to that date rather than to maturity.

When the metric lies

Missing a put date means being left holding a bond whose issuer has just set a token coupon for years ahead.

Also known as: put date, put option, offer date
