Voting through a broker
The route by which a holder passes his instruction to his depository, which relays it along the custody chain to the registrar.
How to read the number
For a retail investor it is the only practical way to vote: in the register he is held through a nominee rather than directly.
When the metric lies
A broker's deadline for instructions falls before the issuer's deadline for ballots, and each intermediary keeps a buffer of its own.
