Exelixis is built around a single cancer drug and is widening its use.
The lead drug is used in kidney and liver cancer, often combined with immunotherapy. It supplies the overwhelming share of revenue, and the company is profitable — a rarity for a biotech. That dependence gives a steady stream today and a defined risk date in the future.
Work runs in two directions: widening the approved drug's indications and developing the next generation of molecules meant to replace it before patent protection lapses. Litigation with generic manufacturers is a constant background. Risks: the patent term, trial outcomes and competition in the same indications. The company pays no dividend but buys back stock.
