Globus Medical makes spinal implants and the robots that help a surgeon place them.
Spinal surgery requires placing screws to within a millimetre beside nerve roots. The robot holds the trajectory calculated from a scan and reduces the chance of error. A clinic that has bought such a system then buys the same manufacturer's implants — they are designed for it.
That is the point of the model: the robot is sold not for its own mark-up but to secure the implant flow. Revenue follows procedure volumes, which grow with an ageing population. Risks: hospital reimbursement, competition from large orthopaedic makers and integration after a merger with a company of comparable size. The company pays no dividend.
