The unit of weight in which precious metals are quoted on the world market.
How to read the number
The world price of gold is stated in dollars per ounce and the Russian one in roubles per gram, so any comparison needs both the unit and the currency converted.
When the metric lies
A troy ounce and an ordinary ounce are different weights. Substituting one for the other creates a gap at the very first conversion, and it looks like a market difference in price.
