Preferred shares
A preferred share gives priority in the payment of dividends but, as a rule, no vote. The company's charter usually fixes a minimum: a defined share of net profit or a specific sum per share. With an equal or larger dividend this produces a higher dividend yield — the usual reason such shares are bought.
Both classes of the same issuer rest on the same profit, so their fundamental metrics are shared; only price, dividend and liquidity can diverge.
