Church & Dwight holds both value and premium brands — from Arm & Hammer baking soda to vitamins and personal care.
The portfolio is deliberately split roughly evenly between value and premium brands. That is a rare construction: in a downturn shoppers trade down and sales move within the company rather than to a competitor. In good years the reverse works and the premium half grows.
The company is known for discipline in acquiring brands: it buys a niche leader, feeds it into its distribution system and gets growth without building from scratch. Its own manufacturing is limited and part of production is contracted out. Risks: retailers' own labels, raw material costs and dependence on a few large retail customers. The dividend has been raised for decades.
