Verizon is the second large US telecom operator, known for network quality and a high dividend yield.
As with its rivals, the base is postpaid mobile service and home broadband, including fixed wireless access over fifth-generation networks. The market is divided among three operators, and competition runs on discounts and device subsidies, which weighs directly on margin.
The company historically bet on network quality and premium positioning, which produced lower churn but also fewer subscriber additions when rivals discounted aggressively. The enterprise segment supplies stable but slowly growing revenue.
Much of the stock's appeal is the dividend: it is high by market standards and has been raised for many consecutive years. The other side is large debt raised for spectrum and the capital intensity of networks — free cash flow matters more than earnings here, because it is what funds the payout.
