BWX Technologies builds the nuclear reactors for American submarines and aircraft carriers.
The position is unique: the company is the sole supplier of reactor plants for the navy. That does not arise from a tender — it requires decades of experience, government licences and manufacturing certified for nuclear components. Orders are scheduled decades ahead alongside shipbuilding programmes.
The second part is medical isotopes and fuel for research reactors; the third, potentially large, is equipment for small modular reactors, around which interest is rising again because data centres need constant power. Risks: the defence budget, other people's programme schedules and executing complex contracts. The dividend is small.
