Neurocrine treats neurological and hormonal disorders — above all involuntary movements caused by antipsychotics.
The main drug relieves involuntary movements that develop in some patients after long use of psychiatric medication. The condition is persistent, the course of treatment long, and alternatives few — hence steady recurring revenue.
The disorder is under-diagnosed: a general practitioner does not always recognise it, so growth depends on educating psychiatrists as much as on the drug itself. The second line is congenital adrenal hyperplasia, where a new medicine allows hormone doses to be reduced. Risks: the patent term, competition and insurer decisions. Development continues in psychiatry, where the pipeline is the main source of value beyond the current drug. The company pays no dividend.
