Moderna builds medicines on messenger RNA — a technology proven by one vaccine and not yet by anything else.

The company's value now lies not in current sales but in the platform: the same technology is applied to vaccines against other infections, to personalised oncology and to rare diseases. Each programme goes through clinical trials with its own risk of failure.

The financial position turns on whether accumulated cash lasts until the next revenue source appears: the company is cutting costs and pushing back timelines. It pays no dividend. This is a bet on the technology rather than on current results.
