About the coin
The cryptographer Silvio Micali built Algorand around pure proof of stake: a randomly selected committee confirms each block, the chain does not fork, and a transaction is final immediately. From the outset the network targeted payments and asset issuance — from tokenised securities to government-backed projects — and treats low fees as a hard requirement: the transfer fee is fixed and does not rise under load. Smart contracts execute on its own virtual machine.
