About the coin
After the DAO hack in 2016 the Ethereum community split: the majority accepted a rollback of the disputed transactions, while a minority stayed on the original chain, where ledger immutability is treated as a principle beyond revision. That is how Ethereum Classic came about — a smart-contract platform that kept proof-of-work mining after Ethereum moved to proof of stake. Contracts port over almost unchanged, and the community later capped issuance with a declining reward schedule.
