Crane makes valves and pumps for chemicals and power, and components for aviation.
A valve in a chemical plant or a nuclear circuit works for decades, and its failure means shutting the unit down. The supplier is therefore qualified and then supplies spares for the asset's whole service life — that part of revenue recurs and carries a better margin than the original sale.
The aviation half follows the same logic: a component is written into the aircraft's certificate, and changing supplier means recertifying the system. Revenue follows fleet flight hours rather than new aircraft production alone. The company spun some lines into separate listed structures. Risks: the industrial cycle and other people's programme schedules. A dividend is paid.
