The issuer has several share classes — market cap covers the whole company.
News Corporation owns a business newspaper, a book publisher and — more important for the money — an Australian property listings platform.
The newspaper side holds up better than the industry, because business information sells by subscription and is needed for work rather than entertainment. Book publishing provides steady if modest income. Neither is what the company is bought for today.
Most of the value sits in the Australian property listings platform, where it holds a position close to a monopoly: a seller must be where the buyers are looking. That is a high-margin business with rising listing prices. Risks: the Australian housing market, disputes with large technology platforms over paying for news, and the dual class share structure.
