Accessibility

We want the platform's data to be usable from a keyboard, at increased zoom and with assistive technology. This statement describes where things actually stand, without rounding in our favour: first what is done, then what is not.

What already works

• A “skip to content” link is the first item in the tab order on every product page and becomes visible on focus.
• The document declares the language and writing direction of the edition, not of the default language.
• Links, buttons and fields show a visible focus ring: where the focus is, is always visible.
• The instrument catalogue and the dividend tables are real tables with column headers and a sort-direction marker for assistive technology.
• Images carry text alternatives; their presence is checked automatically on every build.
• The dark and light themes are built on one set of colour tokens, and muted text does not fall below the set contrast threshold.
• The running quote ticker stops on hover and when it receives keyboard focus.
• An automated accessibility audit (axe) covers twelve key pages in both themes and at two widths as part of the browser test suite: there is not a single serious or critical violation.
• The search dialog, the confirmation dialog and the mobile «More» sheet keep focus inside, switch the rest of the page off for assistive technology and return focus to the control that opened them. Other overlays do not do this yet — see the limitations below.
• The shared tabs primitive is operated with the arrow keys, Home and End; a single tab sits in the tab order rather than all of them. Tab sets written before it do not do this yet — see the limitations below.
• The «reduce motion» and «increased contrast» system settings and the operating system's forced-colours mode are supported.
• On touch devices buttons, tabs, catalogue segments and navigation links are no smaller than 44 pixels.
• The number of instruments found in the Russian-market catalogue is announced to assistive technology when a filter changes.
• Row density in the Russian-market catalogue can be switched and is remembered on the reader's device.
• Animations, transitions and smooth scrolling are suppressed when the system asks for reduced motion — including the scrolling pages request programmatically. There is exactly one exception, named below: the quote ticker.

Known limitations

Below is what we know about ourselves. The list is incomplete by definition: an audit we have not yet run is what would complete it.

• Conformance with WCAG 2.1 level AA has not been confirmed by an independent audit. We do not claim it.
• No screen-reader testing has been carried out.
• The price chart cannot be operated from the keyboard and has no text alternative for its values.
• Seventeen tab sets — every one built on the shared primitive — are operated with the arrow keys, plus one written separately. Eight sets were hand-written before the primitive: in those every tab sits in the tab order and the arrow keys do nothing.
• Focus is trapped in three overlays out of eleven: the search dialog, the confirmation dialog and the mobile sheet. In the rest the keyboard can still leave an open dialog for the page underneath.
• The 44-pixel rule does not cover text inputs, checkboxes or standalone chip links outside navigation — those links are raised one at a time and some have not been raised yet. Inputs and checkboxes: their size is set by the browser and can only be raised together with the label. That is not done yet.
• Wide tables scroll horizontally on a narrow screen.
• The quote ticker on the home page is not suppressed by the reduced-motion setting: it has a stop mechanism — hover and focus — and this is a deliberate decision, not an oversight.

Write to hello@tradealmanac.com with the subject “Accessibility”. Describe the page, the device and the assistive technology you use, and what exactly did not work. We reply within five working days and either name a date for the fix or say plainly that the barrier will remain and why.

How this statement is maintained

Both lists are edited together with the code: a line moves from “limitations” to “works” when the change is deployed, not when it is planned. The date under the heading is the date of the last such edit.
