About the coin
USDD is issued within the TRON ecosystem at the initiative of the reserve associated with it and its founder Justin Sun. It differs in kind from dollar tokens such as PYUSD or RLUSD: what stands behind it is not bank deposits and Treasury bills but crypto assets held in reserve at deliberate over-collateralisation.
The first version leaned on an algorithmic mechanism plus that declared surplus reserve; a later one moved to a collateralised-position model familiar from crypto-backed stablecoin protocols. Reserve size and reserve composition are both published by the issuer, and the distinction matters: a buffer made of volatile assets only covers issuance until a market fall eats the buffer.
The risk profile follows: the peg holds or fails on the price of the collateral assets and on the reserve manager's conduct, not on a bank account. Against a reserve-backed token the difference is decisive — there a statement of accounts suffices, here collateral price and liquidity have to be judged. USDD circulates mainly within TRON.
The backing is reserve crypto assets rather than bank dollars, so the peg depends on their price.
