Honeywell is an industrial conglomerate: aerospace systems, building automation, materials and industrial software.
Aerospace is the largest segment: avionics, auxiliary power units, control systems. As with other suppliers in the industry, a significant share of income comes from servicing equipment already installed, which makes revenue steadier than new sales.
The remaining segments cover building and process automation, performance materials and industrial software. That mix protects against a downturn in any one industry while prompting the recurring investor question of whether the company should be split for a clearer valuation — a debate that has run for years.
The business is cyclical and tied to customer capital spending: construction, refining, logistics. Honeywell has paid and raised a dividend for many years, and the software segment is seen as the route to a higher share of recurring revenue.
