Jack Henry runs the core systems of small banks and credit unions.
The customers are community banks that cannot justify their own technology department. The company supplies everything: account ledgers, online banking, payment processing, regulatory reporting. Replacing such a system is a multi-year project with a risk of halting the bank, so the customer almost never leaves.
What sets it apart from larger competitors is a reputation as a supplier that does not fail and answers the phone: in this segment reliability decides rather than price. Revenue is almost entirely recurring. Risks: consolidation among small banks, which shrinks the customer count by itself, and the cost of moving the platform onto a modern foundation. The dividend has been raised for many consecutive years.
