A marketplace model: a host lists, a guest books, the company keeps a percentage. Capital needs are minimal and margins high — but value comes from balance: too little supply and the guest finds nothing; too few guests and the host leaves. Maintaining that balance city by city is the real work.
The dominant cost is acquisition: advertising and search placement. The greater the share of direct and in-app bookings, the higher the profit, so the company invests in brand recognition rather than buying traffic.
Risks are above all regulatory: cities restrict short-term rentals to protect housing markets, and each such decision subtracts supply. The second risk is the tourism cycle. The company pays no dividend, directing cash flow into buybacks.
