Astera Labs makes the chips that connect processors, accelerators and memory inside a server.
When dozens of accelerators go into a rack, the bottleneck is not computation but the links between them: signals degrade over distance and standard interfaces cannot carry the required speed. The company makes retimers and switches that solve exactly that, and grew with the AI infrastructure build-out.
The risk lies in concentration and in dependence on other people's cycles: revenue comes from a small number of cloud operators and server makers whose plans change. A second risk is competition from large chip makers, for whom this is an adjacent problem. The stock trades on expectations of the next generation of connectivity standards rather than on current earnings. The company pays no dividend.
