Dynatrace watches how someone else's application behaves and finds the cause of a fault before a customer calls.
A modern application consists of hundreds of connected parts, and working out by hand which one is slow is impossible. The system gathers data from every node and builds the dependency map itself, pointing at the cause rather than the symptom. That is valuable precisely when something has broken — and something breaks regularly.
It is sold by subscription priced on the volume observed, so revenue grows with the customer's infrastructure. Replacing such a system is hard: alerts and on-call workflows are configured around it. Risks: competition from several strong players and customers' attempts to cut observability spending. The company pays no dividend.
