Dividend yield

The annual dividend divided by the current share price.

Formula

\text{Yield} = \frac{\text{Annual dividend}}{\text{Share price}}

Declared payouts over the last twelve months divided by the current price. Stored as a fraction.

How to read the number

Yield rises when the price falls. A record yield often signals a collapsed quote rather than a generous company.

When the metric lies

Historical yield promises nothing about the future: a one-off payout funded by an asset sale inflates the figure for a year and then it collapses. Read the dividend policy, not a single number.

Where it is used

The metric is calculated across every security in the catalogue and appears on the instrument card, in the multiples table and in the screener.
