Littelfuse makes fuses and surge protection — the part that burns out instead of the rest of the circuit.
The part costs pennies and protects a device worth thousands: on a current surge the fuse breaks the circuit and saves everything else. Requirements for it are written into safety standards, and a specific model is designed into the circuit for the product's whole production run.
Demand grows with electrification: an electric car needs protection at an order of magnitude higher voltages than a petrol one, while charging stations and storage add new applications. Customers are carmaking, industry and appliances. Risks: the automotive and industrial cycles, distributor inventories. A dividend is paid and raised.
