Strategy is a former enterprise analytics vendor that turned its balance sheet into a vehicle for holding bitcoin.

The software business — enterprise analytics platforms — exists and produces revenue, but stopped setting the share price long ago. The company's principal asset is acquired bitcoin, and the stock moves with it, often amplified.

The amplification comes from how the purchases are funded: the company borrows through convertible notes and sells its own shares, directing the proceeds into further acquisitions. That works as leverage — when the price rises, assets grow faster than debt; when it falls, the mechanism runs in reverse.

Hence the risk profile: the stock behaves less like a technology equity than like a leveraged derivative on a cryptocurrency. Spot bitcoin funds gave investors a more direct route to the same bet, and the premium to asset value is a debate of its own. The company pays no dividend.
